Prelude to Gallopedia Polls, Week # 97

Dated 6th – 12th Dec. 09'

This week report consists of 24 surveys. Two of these are multi-country surveys while the rest are national surveys. Various significant issues have been raised in the polls ranging from issues of global significance to local concerns across the globe.

While the political scientists continue to ponder over the issues of global governance and at various levels world leaders are practically taking some steps in this regard, the publics around the world seem to be very supportive of cooperation among the nations to achieve mutual goals. With all the awareness and modern values should not citizens in the developed countries be strong supporters of such a trend? But it is not the case. Recent polling by worldpublicopinion.org shows that countries like Turkey, Egypt and Nigeria are overwhelmingly supportive of the idea.

Pollsters have been continuously monitoring public sentiments & concerns about climate change. Surprisingly again the concern in the American public has declined about climate change depicting lagging pressure regarding pushing policies at the domestic front. At the international front however president Obama has demonstrated a proactive approach with a symbolically significant trip to Copenhagen for the UN Climate Summit. However the world continues to remain skeptical about any credible policy commitments stemming from this international forum.
